About Case: Unrested
Case: Unrested is an independent documentary project exploring true crime, cold cases, local mysteries and places with difficult histories—particularly those connected to the North West of England.
The films are made to be compelling, but never at the expense of clarity. The casebook exists so viewers can move beyond the finished edit, examine the chronology and sources, and see what remains uncertain.
Suggest a case or correction →Research standards
Official records, court material, contemporary reporting and clearly identified secondary sources take priority. A repeated claim is not treated as established simply because it has travelled widely.
Fact, attributed reporting and interpretation are kept distinct. Where accounts conflict or evidence is incomplete, the uncertainty is part of the story—not something to edit away.
Victims and families are treated as people, not plot devices. Graphic detail is included only when it materially helps explain the case, evidence or investigation.
Substantive corrections and important developments are dated rather than silently rewritten. Reliable challenges are welcome and the record remains open when a case changes.
Stories rarely belong to a category as neatly as they belong to a place. The atlas turns the archive into a landscape—revealing connections between cases, institutions, roads and communities.
The archive carries the work a video cannot: production notes, source decisions, corrections and meaningful developments—published only when there is something worth adding.

Local knowledge can preserve details that never reached the archive. Suggest a case, share a memory or challenge something already published. Every message is read with care, but submission does not guarantee coverage.
Tell us who or what the story concerns, where it happened, why it still matters and which reliable sources can help establish the record. Links to public documents and contemporaneous reporting are particularly useful.
